Since 2006, PRP has been cooperating with the Ministry of Health in drafting legislation regarding the profession of psychotherapist. In the last four years, an attempt has been made to regulate the legal status of psychotherapy in Poland. The Ministry of Health prepared four governmental bills:

• from 31st May 2010 – bill on certain medical professions and principles of obtaining the title of a specialist in other fields applicable in health care;
• from 4th December 2006 – bill on certain medical professions;
• from 10th February 2009 – bill on certain medical professions and principles of obtaining the title of a specialist in other fields applicable in health care;
• from 11th August 2008 – bill on certain medical professions.

As part of the above mentioned activities, a framework programme for comprehensive training of psychotherapists was elaborated by PRP. It specifies the minimum quantitative requirements and basic components of training in a way that respects the uniqueness of each therapeutic approach. From the very beginning of its existence, PRP strives to ensure the equal treatment by the Ministry of Health and the National Health Fund of psychotherapist certificates issued by organisations that train and/or certify psychotherapists on the basis of the aforementioned framework programme. In this case, the Council is pursuing a psychotherapy reimbursement system that will take into account:

A few times, PRP intervened when the regulations of the Minister of Health and the President of the National Health Fund concerning the reimbursement of psychotherapy, which discriminated against a significant part of the psychotherapist community in Poland (more in the PRP activities tab).

When the attempts to include psychotherapy in the act on certain medical professions proved unfeasible, the Ministry of Health abandoned it, and PRP began preparing its own draft bill on the profession of psychotherapist, which is still a work in progress. Completion of this phase of preparation requires the settlement of the last few most debatable points.
